As I wrote yesterday, the mobs that attacked the Capitol were embarrassing to a cause that prided itself on its respect for the law.  Conservatives who support Trump now find themselves lumped in with the worst and nuttiest elements of the pro-Trump movement. 

To be fair, The violence-prone elements of Antifa and BLM claimed they were pushed to the brink for years, and then excused for looting, burning, and destroying statues and businesses; media outlets generally characterized the riots as "mostly peaceful".  With all news stories, context is important, and the great John Hinderaker at Power Line Blog provides it:

Do you remember when President Trump was inaugurated on January 20, 2017? Leftist Democrats rioted in Washington that day. That riot was arguably worse, more violent and more destructive, than what happened in D.C. yesterday. The liberal rioters destroyed stores, set vehicles on fire and battled with the police. Six police officers were wounded. Here is a video reminder:
